The literature on “the crisis of democracy” has witnessed a booming in recent years, also in conjunction with the economic crisis. Yet discourse of crisis is problematic when referred to democracy. Is the “crisis” something anomalous in a democracy? To tackle this question I shall first try to clarify the meaning of the term “crisis”, secondly list the several discourses on the crisis of democracy, and thirdly propose some final thoughts.
